Even though we’ve just entered the official season of summer, we’re already past the halfway mark of summer break—and what a summer it’s been so far at Wehinahpay Mountain Camp! The mountain air has been filled with laughter, challenge, and growth. From Scouts mastering outdoor skills to earning merit badges, hiking scenic trails, and leading within their patrols, the energy at camp this year has been nothing short of inspiring.
The reviews from our troop leaders have been glowing, and for good reason. Our staff and volunteers have done an outstanding job creating a safe, high-impact, memory-making experience. Wehinahpay continues to be a place where Scouts gain confidence, build friendships, and strengthen their character—one campfire and one challenge at a time.
If your Scout was part of camp this year—thank you for making it happen. And if not, let’s work together to get them there next summer. It truly is one of the most powerful and transformative things we do as a movement.
Elevate: National Jamboree 2026
Even as we enjoy the height of summer, we’re already preparing for something extraordinary on the horizon: the 2026 National Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia. The theme for this incredible event is Elevate—a call to rise above the ordinary, take on new challenges, and experience Scouting on an epic scale.
This is not your average campout. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, bringing together tens of thousands of Scouts from across the country for high adventure, leadership development, and new lifelong friendships.

The Conquistador Council contingent troops are forming now, and we want as many of our Scouts as possible to elevate their Scouting experience by attending. If your Scout is eligible, now is the time to start the conversation.
Fall: The Best Season for Growth
While summer still has more to offer, fall is just around the corner—and with it comes the best opportunity of the year to grow our units. Families are returning to routine, school events provide visibility, and the weather is ideal for outdoor fun and first campouts.
Now is the time to start preparing your recruitment events, flyer requests, and peer-to-peer invitations. A strong fall launch will set your pack or troop up for success throughout the coming year. And if you need support, materials, or ideas—our council staff is ready to assist.
Let’s finish this summer strong, prepare for big adventures ahead, and bring new families into the movement that’s shaping the next generation of leaders.
See you on the trail,
Karl Shelton
