New Scoutreach Partnership with Boys and Girls Club of Chaves County

from the desk of Patrick Smith, Assistant Scout Executive

Conquistador Council and the Boys and Girls Club of Chaves County have started a partnership to deliver the Cub Scout program at their Club with over 45 youth!

Over the last few weeks of November, the Club has been delivering the Bobcat adventure to the Littles (K – 1st grade), Middles (2nd – 3rd grades) and Bigs (4th and 5th grades). The youth have learned about the Scout Oath and Law, the Cub Scout and Scout handshake, salute and sign, and playing new games including steal the bacon, crab walk and hula hoop pass. The dens created their own den flag with the help of junior high school students. The Littles made friendship key chains to give to a friend while the Middles worked on Code of Conduct for their den and their personal Scout Law poster and the Bigs learned about Patrol Leader and Denner leadership roles.

We are very excited to have these youth jump in and participate in this pilot program for our Council. As this group of youth is meeting, the older junior high school youth at their club is serving as Den Chiefs to help with the projects and games. We are organizing a program delivery for the older youth to learn more about leadership and STEM and outdoor skills!

As this pilot creates momentum, we have partnerships to start with the Boys and Girls Club of Lincoln County and in Hagerman shortly into the new year. This opportunity to bring after school Cub Scout activities to our local Boys and Girls Clubs will spread into the rest of our Council in 2026 as we aim to serve in Carlsbad and Hobbs later in the year!

Our partnerships with these Boys and Girls Clubs around our Council will help create the buzz of Scouting in those communities and bring Scouting back into the community!

Congratulations Boys and Girls Club of Chaves County!
