Putting Skills Into Action: Scouts Enjoy Pecos River Campout and Water Skiing [VIDEO]

Troop 228 from Artesia and Troop 3274 from Hobbs camped along our picturesque Pecos River this past weekend.



The Scouts had the opportunity to earn the Water Sports Merit Badge, the Stand Up Paddle Craft Award, the Kayaking Award, and numerous rank requirements, and began their Camping Merit Badge. Troop 228’s SPL Hunter Kern, after lots of hard work and many nights camping out, earned his National Outdoor Award and Camping Merit Badge.



Thank you to the many leaders who stepped up to teach different Rank and Merit Badge requirements. It takes a village, and we could not have the programs we do without you. Special thanks to Depp Crocket, who championed the Water Sports Merit Badge and all the other water activities. Even a desert Scout can learn to be a fish, especially in our beloved Pecos River.


As the Mighty Troop 228 Scoutmaster Jeremy Kern said, “This weekend is a reminder of what our Founder Sir Robert Baden Powell said, "A week of camp life is worth six months of theoretical teaching in the meeting room.'”
