Unforgettable Opportunities for Southeast New Mexico Scouts
Scouts from Packs 26, 7, and 72, along with Troops 7 and 72, recently embarked on an unforgettable annual trip across Texas. This journey took us through history, onto the seas, and into the depths of the ocean as we explored the Alamo, the USS Lexington, and the Texas State Aquarium. Along the way, we stayed at McGimsey Scout Park and Camp Karankawa, making memories that will last a lifetime.
Walking Through History at The Alamo
Our trip began with a visit to one of the most famous landmarks in Texas—the Alamo. As we walked through the historic site, Scouts learned about the legendary battle that took place there in 1836. The stories of bravery and sacrifice resonated with everyone, reminding us of the courage displayed by those who defended the mission. The experience helped bring our history lessons to life, sparking meaningful conversations about leadership, resilience, and honor.

All Aboard the USS Lexington
Next, we headed to Corpus Christi to tour the USS Lexington, a retired aircraft carrier with a rich military history. The sheer size of the ship amazed us all, and we had the chance to explore its decks, crew quarters, and flight control tower. Scouts participated in hands-on activities, including sitting in the cockpit of historic aircraft and learning about naval aviation. The stories of the men and women who served aboard the USS Lexington were inspiring, leaving us with a deeper appreciation for those who protect our freedoms.

Underwater Adventures at the Texas State Aquarium
The adventure continued as we dove into the wonders of marine life at the Texas State Aquarium. From the vibrant coral reefs to the majestic dolphins, every exhibit captured our attention. Scouts had the chance to get up close with stingrays, watch sea turtles glide effortlessly through the water, and observe sharks in their habitat. The conservation efforts highlighted by the aquarium staff encouraged discussions on how we can help protect our oceans and the creatures that call them home.

Camping and Camaraderie at McGimsey Scout Park & Camp Karankawa
No Scout adventure is complete without some time spent in the great outdoors! We set up camp at McGimsey Scout Park and later at Camp Karankawa, both offering a perfect setting for bonding, skill-building, and reflection. Evenings around the campfire were filled with laughter, storytelling, and, of course, delicious campfire meals. Scouts practiced essential outdoor skills, including fire-building and campsite setup, further reinforcing the values of teamwork and preparedness.
A Journey to Remember

This trip was more than just a sightseeing tour—it was an opportunity for Scouts to connect with history, explore new environments, and grow as individuals. Whether standing in the shadow of the Alamo, marveling at marine life, or discovering the inner workings of an aircraft carrier, every moment added to their scouting journey.
A special thank you to all the leaders, parents, and volunteers who made this trip possible. Your dedication and support ensure that our Scouts continue to learn, grow, and experience the world in meaningful ways.
