From the Desk of Karl Shelton, Scout Executive
As we step into April, the excitement of summer camp is building across our council. For many Scouts, summer is the highlight of their year—an opportunity to break from the routine of school, immerse themselves in the outdoors, and experience the best of what Scouting has to offer.
For troops, summer camp is more than just a fun week away. It’s a critically important experience where friendships are deepened, advancement is reinvigorated, and Scouts develop new skills that will serve them for years to come.
The time spent around a campfire, on the waterfront, or working together in the patrol method strengthens the bonds of a troop like nothing else. If your unit hasn’t locked in its summer plans, now is the time to make sure every Scout has a chance to attend camp.
For Cub Scouts, Day Camp and Resident Camp serve as a bridge that keeps the adventure alive while school is out. These programs introduce younger Scouts to the outdoor excitement of Scouting while providing fun, structured experiences that keep them engaged and excited for the future.
Making Camp and Jamboree Possible for Every Scout
In Scouting, we believe in the value of hard work, and A Scout is Thrifty—learning to earn their own way. But we also recognize that there may be times when a Scout needs a little extra assistance. That’s why our council offers fundraising opportunities and camperships to help Scouts participate in all of our programs, from summer camp to high-adventure experiences like the 2026 National Jamboree.

The National Jamboree is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many Scouts, bringing together tens of thousands of participants from across the country for an unparalleled Scouting experience. Our Conquistador Council contingent troops are forming now, and we want every eligible Scout to have a chance to attend.
If you or a Scout in your unit is interested in summer camp or Jamboree but is concerned about cost, let’s have a conversation—there are ways to make these experiences possible. Fundraisers, unit support, and council camperships are all tools to ensure that finances are never the reason a Scout misses out.
A Summer to Remember, A Journey to Prepare For
Whether it’s summer camp in 2025 or the National Jamboree in 2026, adventure is calling. Let’s work together to make sure every Scout has the opportunity to take part.
If you or your unit needs help planning for camp, fundraising ideas, or more information on camperships and Jamboree opportunities, reach out to the council office—we’re here to help!
