From Fairgoers to Future Scouts

Scouting America Conquistador Council brought the spirit of adventure to the Eastern New Mexico State Fair this year, connecting with families, reconnecting with Scouting alumni, and sharing what makes Scouting such a meaningful part of growing up.
Our booth welcomed fairgoers with Scouting stickers, wristbands, Scout Life magazines, and a Fair Scavenger Hunt that encouraged visitors to explore. Along the way, we had the chance to talk with former Scouts and parents of alumni who were delighted to see that Scouting is still alive and well in New Mexico. Their stories and enthusiasm were a reminder that the impact of Scouting lasts long after a young person earns their last badge or packs away their uniform.
We also met parents and children who were excited about the possibility of joining Scouting and discovering adventures of their own. From outdoor exploration and hands-on learning to leadership and lifelong friendships, Scouting continues to give young people opportunities to try new things, build confidence, and grow.
The Council also participated in the fair’s educational window display with a colorful, handmade mural created from construction paper. Featuring a Scout looking out over a farm, the display carried the message “Come Grow with Scouting” and celebrated the connection between Scouting, education, agriculture, and personal growth.
The Eastern New Mexico State Fair was a wonderful opportunity to share our mission, celebrate our history, and introduce a new generation to the adventures that await them. And we’re already dreaming up exciting ideas for next year’s booth!
Whether reconnecting with familiar faces or meeting future Scouts for the first time, we’re proud to be part of a community where Scouting continues to grow.
