The Scout Law defines the values by which Scouts strive to live, guiding their actions and character each day. While many Scouts do their best to uphold these ideals during their time in the program, only a few continue to embody them throughout their entire lives. Jimmy Allison was one of those rare individuals.
Jimmy lived by the principles of Scouting every single day, regardless of where he was or who he was with.
His involvement with Scouting America spanned many roles, as a youth, a parent, and a long-time volunteer. He dedicated countless hours of his personal time to strengthening and supporting the Scouting community within the Conquistador Council.
Outside of Scouting, Jimmy cherished time with his family and found great joy in his love for motorcycles. I first met Jimmy during my interview in early December and had the privilege of working alongside him on several occasions. He was a constant source of positivity, always smiling, always kind, and always ready to help. One phrase he often used when asked how he was doing has stayed with me ever since, “Better than I deserve.” That simple statement captured the humility and grace that defined him.
Although I only knew Jimmy for a short time, he quickly became more than a fellow Scouter, he became a friend. His unwavering dedication and the example he set continue to inspire me daily in my own service to our council. I hope that, in time, I can live up to even a portion of the legacy Jimmy left behind.
I know I speak for many when I say that Jimmy’s impact on our Scouting community and this council will never be forgotten.
The Conquistador Council is honored that his family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the Jimmy Allison Registration Assistance Fund—helping ensure that finances are never a barrier that prevents a young person from joining Scouting.
