The Rio Hondo District celebrate 2024 at the District Banquet on January 11, 2025. Assumption Catholic Church hosted the event for 49 leaders, guests and Scouts.
Mike Espiritu presented from the Roswell-Chaves County Economic Development Corporation on the National Championship Air Races that start in September of 2025 and how the units and families can be apart of these events with volunteering and potential merit badge learning!
9 adult leaders were recognized for their support and service to Scouting in Rio Hondo District and their local units.
Spark Plug Award – to recognize and celebrate new adult leaders that have made an immediate and noticeable impact in their local unit with high excitement and enthusiasm.
James Woody – District Commissioner
Jennifer Gordon – Troop 9007 Scoutmaster
Dylan Thompson – Pack 72 Cubmaster
Cornerstone Award – to recognize and celebrate adult leaders for their continued years of service to their unit. Without these individuals’ strong and dedicated leadership and service, their units would not have served so many families.
Carol Parman – Pack 7 Cubmaster
Howard Parman – Troop 72 Scoutmaster
John Collins - Pack 26 Cubmaster
John Collins was also awarded his Den Leader Training Knot for his service to Pack 26.
The District Key 3 recognized Bobby Arnett for his continued dedication throughout the district with Troops 149 and 9007 as well as Venture Crew 30 – with the District Key 3 Appreciation Award.
The evening came to a close with the awarding of the District Award of Merits to three very dedicated leaders who have filled many roles during their volunteer journey.

R. Matt Bristol – Assistant Scoutmaster Troop 9007, previous Scoutmaster, previous Council President, NESA Outstanding Eagle Scout Awardee, Silver Beaver, Eagle Scout
Along with the adult volunteer awards, a new staff member that will serve Rio Hondo was introduced – Salvador Zambrano. He will serve alongside Logan Mitchell – District Chair and James Woody – District Commissioner. The Rio Hondo District Executive in 2024 – Denise Trowbridge was present to support and celebrate. She will transition into the Marketing Director role as Sal fills into the District Associate position.
The potluck dinner featured incredible food from everyone. We are grateful for the effort put into making such delightful dishes.
