Scouts Celebrate Leaders at Chisum Trail 2025 District Banquet

Scouts and families in the Chisum Trail District celebrated together at their District Banquet on February 7th, 2025, at First Christian Church in Artesia New Mexico.

53 Scouts, parents and leaders from Troop 270 in Carlsbad, Troop 228 and Pack 270 in Artesia along with Conquistador Council staff joined in to celebrate the 2024 year! 


Families all brought potluck dishes to share with others and enjoy each others company. The banquet hall was decorated thanks to Tabatha Moreau from Troop 228. All three units were represented in the flag ceremony that was led by Kwahadi Lodge Chief – Charles Moreau.  



In 2024, the Chisum Trail District was very busy and despite only have 3 units, they recorded impressive stats -  

  • 201 days camping 

  • 279 Cub Scout adventures earned 

  • 21 Cub Scout Ranks earned 

  • 93 Merit Badges earned 

  • 18 Scouts BSA Ranks earned 

  • 3294 service hours recorded 

  • 1 new Eagle Scout – Mason Dhenin from Troop 270.  


During the banquet, Jeremy Kern – Council Alumni Chair and Scoutmaster Troop 228 shared the importance of engaging our Scouting Alumni and inviting those Alumni back to our activities. He invited everyone to take the step of registering as a Scouting Alumni.  

Doepp Crocket presented the Eagle Scout Certificate and Eagle Statuette to Mr. and Mrs. Dhenin on behalf of Eagle Scout Mason Dhenin – who was not able to attend due to a scheduling conflict with his high school swim team.


Joe Scheil read and presented 2024 District Award of Merit recognition to Steve Lewis – Scoutmaster Troop 270 and Tessie Ortega – previous Cubmaster Pack 270 (not in attendance).

The banquet wrapped up with Assistant Scout Executive Patrick Smith expressing his gratitude for all adult leaders and parents that serve Chisum Trail scouts and Scout Executive Karl Shelton kicking off Conquistador Council 100 Year Celebration.
