from the desk of Karl Shelton, Scout Executive
With recruitment season fast approaching, we’re looking to identify Scouts, troops and troop leaders who can speak to media outlets on the powerful connection between Scouting and sports. Sharing these stories will be an important part of our media outreach and will help drive awareness and excitement for this year’s recruitment efforts.

We’d appreciate your help in identifying standout spokespeople within your council who fit one or more of the following profiles:
Troop leaders who also serve as youth sports coaches in your community
Troops composed entirely (or primarily) of Scouts who play on the same sports team or in the same league
Scouts who participate in unique or less common sports (e.g., fencing, rowing, martial arts, rock climbing)
Scouts who have earned sports-related merit badges or achieved notable athletic awards
Scouts who have organized or led local sports clinics, tournaments, or fitness events as service projects
Siblings (brothers, sisters, or twins) who are both Scouts and teammates on the same team
If you know of any Scouts or troop leaders who would make compelling spokespeople, please send their name, title and contact information to karl.shelton@scouting.org by Thursday, July 24. That information will be relayed to the national PR Team. If selected, they will reach out directly to coordinate an intro call to go over messaging and media training.
