Future Forward Community Days Bring Family Fun and Learning Across Lea County

Devon Fite, Director and CEO of Future Innovators Academy Hobbs, a non-profit organization working to provide at-risk youth with programs to improve their educational success, invited Oil Patch’s Scouting America Leaders out to their Future Forward Community Days, a series of free family oriented community fair events traveling across Lea County this summer.

These events feature activity stations based on educational building blocks like STEM, art, literacy, Health, and Wellness provided by community partners like Scouting America, Literacy Coalition, Lea County’s Center for the Arts and more.

To kick off these Future Forward Community Days, Future Innovators partnered with the Hobbs Juneteenth Celebration to make their activity stations part of the Freedom Celebration on Saturday June 21^st. The Juneteenth celebration included watermelon pizza, kids line dancing, a history museum set up in the hallways, story time, a 5k run and more. The activity stations provided by Future Innovators began at about two and saw 50-75 local kids come through.

New Oil Patch District Executive, Kristina Ganaway, took on her first big project with presenting a STEM based craft your own Harmonica station, while also sharing her love of Scouting. Kids enjoyed photos of Cub Scout Packs 89 and 300 during various Scouting Activities laid out on the tables for them to see. Other stations provided a slime bar, spin art, free books, and community out reach from Legacy Church Hobbs.

The next Future Forward Community Days starts July 12^th at Eunice Youth Center, then continues each Saturday till August 2^nd where they will be at the Hobbs apartments courtyard.
