Pack 27 Campfire Pack Meeting

Pack 27 recently held a pack meeting at Dowling Aquatics Base. About 10 families were able to spend dinner time together as the Cub Scouts practiced some of their newly learned skills in fire safety and building, cooking and cleaning a meal.

Three Cub Scouts practiced their fire building skills with flint and steel. They learned how to hold the strikers close to their target so their sparks can catch on the fuel. As their fingers were getting tired from holding and striking – after about 5 minutes, one of the Cubs got his fuel to light, which started their log cabin fire!

The Scouts then worked together to cook hamburger meat over the disk cook surface. They separated the grease and the meat and then added the spaghetti sauce to be warmed with the meat. They continued to stir the sauce as they added the cooked spaghetti noodles. While some of the Cubs were cooking the spaghetti, another group of Cubs with adult leaders were prepping the waffle cone s'mores dessert.

The families of the pack then shared a meal together as the fire master den leader tended to the fire and kept it burning to prepare for the waffle cone s'mores dessert.

Much to the surprise to the leaders, no one dripped spaghetti sauce on their shirts or left the campfire with melted marshmallow or chocolate on faces. One of the leaders noted to a fellow bearded leader, "Marshmallow and chocolate – especially when melted – are two of the most difficult ingredients to keep out of beards, especially at dark.."
