As we move deeper into our centennial year, I find myself reflecting on the incredible momentum we’ve built and the excitement that lies ahead.
The Conquistador Council has stood for 100 years as a pillar of adventure, leadership, and service in Southeast New Mexico, and in this milestone year, we are not just looking back—we are moving forward with strength and optimism.
In these first few months of 2025, we have already seen the power of Scouting in action. From recognizing outstanding volunteers at our Annual Banquet to gathering Scouts and leaders at the State Capitol for the first time, our council is thriving. These moments are a testament to the dedication of our volunteers, the passion of our Scouts, and the unwavering support of our communities.
At the Annual Banquet, we honored Silver Beaver recipients, the first-ever Duty to God Award recipient, and our Council Alumnus of the Year—each of them embodying the spirit of selfless service that has defined this movement for a century. The Chisum Trail District Dinner was a wonderful celebration of local leaders, and our Order of the Arrow Lodge Banquet was another reminder of the deep traditions and values that keep Scouting strong.

Then, just a few weeks ago, we saw history in the making as Scouts from across the council gathered at the New Mexico State Capitol for our 1st Annual Conquistador Council Scout Day. They met legislators, explored the halls of government, and even received official recognition for our 100th anniversary. It was a day that reinforced not just our past, but the bright future we are building.
That’s what this centennial year is all about—not just honoring where we’ve been, but setting the stage for where we are going. Our membership is growing, our leaders are engaged, and our programs continue to make a lasting impact on young people. Whether it’s through a Pinewood Derby race, a weekend campout, or a new leadership opportunity, every experience in Scouting is shaping the next generation of leaders.
As we continue to celebrate 100 years of Scouting in the Conquistador Council, I invite each of you—volunteers, families, alumni, and supporters—to be part of this journey. Let’s make this a year to remember, one where we honor the past, celebrate the present, and build the future together.
Thank you for your dedication to Scouting, and for making this milestone year truly special.
